Valorant Agent release order at a glance

The chronological order begins with the ten characters playable when the closed beta opened on April 7, 2020: Breach, Brimstone, Cypher, Jett, Omen, Phoenix, Raze, Sage, Sova, and Viper. Those ten share a release date; their row numbers below are alphabetical within the cohort, not an official Riot ordering. Reyna was the eleventh playable Agent and the only newcomer in Valorant's June 2 launch build.

Every Valorant Agent in release order

The dates below use Riot's global patch rollout as the reference. A few updates reached regions at different local calendar times, so a regional client may have shown the new Agent one day earlier or later. Miks, Waylay, Vyse, and Tejo have their separately announced rollout dates rather than the preceding patch-note publication date.

How many Agents are in each role?

The roster is close to evenly distributed, but Duelists lead by one. These are current roles, not necessarily the labels an Agent held in early development.

Closed beta versus the full-launch roster

The ten closed-beta Agents

Riot opened the PC closed beta on April 7, 2020 with ten playable Agents. That group already established all four roles: Brimstone, Omen, and Viper controlled sightlines; Jett, Phoenix, and Raze led entries; Breach and Sova gathered or forced information; Cypher and Sage protected space.

Because all ten were available together, any unique one-through-ten ordering is editorial, not a Riot release sequence. Alphabetical ordering keeps the tied cohort reproducible.

Why Reyna is listed separately

Reyna arrived in Patch 1.0 when Valorant launched globally on June 2. She was not part of the April beta roster. That makes her the eleventh playable Agent even though many older lists loosely call every pre-Killjoy character an “original” Agent.

How Valorant's roster expanded year by year

2020: Killjoy and Skye round out the first year

Killjoy brought an automated Sentinel kit in Episode 1 Act 2, while Skye gave Initiators a blend of scouting and team support in Act 3. With Reyna included, Valorant ended 2020 with 13 playable Agents.

2021: four releases and four very different jobs

Yoru added deceptive entry tools, Astra introduced global Controller utility, KAY/O brought suppression, and Chamber arrived as a weapon-focused Sentinel. Chamber's November 16 release followed a short delay, so his patch date—not the beginning of Episode 3 Act 3—is the correct playable date.

2022: speed, recon, and water control

Neon opened the year, Fade followed in April, and Harbor arrived in October. The three additions expanded different roles rather than clustering around one team function.

2023: Gekko, Deadlock, and Iso

Gekko's reusable creatures gave Initiator players a different utility loop. Deadlock added reactive territory control, and Iso closed the year with a Duelist kit built around isolated fights.

2024: Clove and Vyse

Clove became the first post-death smoke Controller, while Vyse arrived as a Sentinel whose metal-based traps punish committed site hits. Both releases filled underrepresented team jobs rather than adding another Duelist.

2025: Tejo, Waylay, and Veto

Riot replaced the old Episode naming model with a year-long season divided into six Acts. Tejo launched with Season 2025, Waylay arrived in Act 2, and Veto appeared in Patch 11.07b. You can move from chronology to play advice with the dedicated Tejo guide, Waylay guide, and Veto guide.

2026: Miks becomes Agent 29

Miks rolled out on March 18 with Patch 12.05 and Valorant 2026 Act 2. His Controller kit combines map-targeted smokes with an ally-focused combat stim and healing-or-concussive utility. The Miks gameplay guide covers the kit in detail.

Who is the newest Valorant Agent?

Miks is the newest playable Agent. Riot identifies the Croatian musician as a Controller, and Patch 12.05 began his regional rollout at 10:00 AM Pacific on March 18, 2026. His four abilities are Harmonize, M-pulse, Waveform, and Bassquake.

Patch 13.04 remained the newest live patch at our August 29 check and did not add another Agent. Riot teased more news for September, but it did not officially identify Agent 30; a teaser is not a release confirmation.

How often does Riot release new Agents?

There is no fixed public schedule. After the 2020 launch cohort, Riot added three or four Agents in several early years, then slowed to two in 2024, three in 2025, and one through August 2026. Historical spacing can describe what happened; it cannot confirm when Agent 30 will launch.

Is Agent 08 a missing playable Agent?

No. “Agent 08” is a gap in the Valorant Protocol's in-universe numbering, not a character that players can select. Riot's public Agents directory has no Agent 08 entry, and no official release announcement has turned that number into a playable character. Lore theories, file references, and fan concepts should not be counted as a thirtieth Agent.

Release order isn't a power ranking

An Agent's age doesn't determine current strength. Riot has repeatedly reworked kits, prices, cooldowns, and role interactions. There are 29 playable Agents in Patch 13.04: eight Duelists and seven each in Controller, Initiator, and Sentinel.

Who was the first Valorant Agent?

There is no single first playable Agent. Ten Agents entered public play together when the closed beta opened on April 7, 2020. Any ordering within that tied cohort is organizational rather than official.

Was Reyna in the beta?

No. Reyna was introduced in Patch 1.0 for Valorant's full launch on June 2, 2020.

Are all Agents available on console?

The current gameplay roster is shared across supported PC and console versions. Console launched years after many Agents' original PC release dates, so this timeline records each Agent's first playable Valorant release, not a second console-specific date.
