Marvel Rivals Competitive uses ten placement matches, a nine-rank ladder, performance-aware point changes, seasonal rewards, and stricter party limits near the top. Bronze through Celestial have three divisions; Eternity and One Above All are leaderboard tiers.
Ranks in order
Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Grandmaster, Celestial, Eternity, and One Above All. One Above All is reserved for the top 500 players.
How to unlock Competitive in Marvel Rivals
New accounts unlock Competitive at level 15. Quick Match teaches the objective modes, hero matchups, and role interactions needed before placements. Reaching the level requirement only opens the queue; it does not protect a first-time player from a difficult provisional lobby.

All Marvel Rivals ranks in order
| Order | Rank | Structure |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Bronze | III–I |
| 2 | Silver | III–I |
| 3 | Gold | III–I |
| 4 | Platinum | III–I |
| 5 | Diamond | III–I |
| 6 | Grandmaster | III–I |
| 7 | Celestial | III–I |
| 8 | Eternity | Leaderboard tier |
| 9 | One Above All | Regional top 500 |
Within a normal rank, III is the entry division and I is the highest. Earn enough points in Division I to reach the next rank. Celestial was added between Grandmaster and Eternity so the very top of the ladder has a more meaningful transition.
How placement matches work
A season begins with ten placements. A brand-new ranked player starts with an estimated Silver III level. Returning players begin from an estimate based on the previous season's final rank, generally three divisions lower, subject to floors and high-rank caps.
Wins and losses move that estimate during the set. Since Season 7, the system also tracks individual performance across the ten placements and can apply an adjustment from -100 to +100 Competitive points based on the result and tier. This does not turn every statistic into guaranteed bonus points; winning remains the clearest way to improve the final placement.
Competitive points, promotion, and Chrono Shield
After placements, wins add points and losses remove them. The post-match amount depends on match result, player performance, and the system's confidence in the current rank. Promotion occurs at the top of a division; falling below the division floor can cause demotion.
Chrono Shield can prevent a qualifying point loss when charged, giving players limited protection rather than a permanent safety net. Disconnect compensation is separate and tier-dependent. Neither mechanic makes individual eliminations more important than securing the map objective.
Party limits and hero bans
Party limits tighten as rank rises. The published structure allows Bronze through Gold to queue in most group sizes except a five-player party, Platinum through Grandmaster in groups of up to three, and Celestial through One Above All in solo or duo. During placements, parties are capped at three and must stay within the permitted division gap.
The ban phase begins from Gold III. Both teams currently ban three heroes, which makes a one-trick plan increasingly fragile. Build a pool across at least two heroes in your main role and one emergency option in another role. For draft ideas, compare the best solo-carry heroes in Marvel Rivals with your actual comfort picks instead of copying the list blindly.
Seasonal rewards and rank resets
Competitive rewards usually include a costume for reaching Gold, frames at Platinum and Diamond, and Crests of Honor for the highest tiers. The exact cosmetic changes each season. Mid-season updates generally preserve rank, while a full new season uses placement estimates rather than forcing every player to restart at Bronze.
How to rank up consistently
- Track team resources. Do not commit multiple ultimates after a fight is already won.
- Play the mode. Convoy, Convergence, and Domination reward different timing; scoreboard damage without objective control is incomplete value.
- Use two-role coverage. Queue plans collapse when the preferred role is filled or a hero is banned.
- Review deaths first. Positioning, late retreats, and unsupported engages are easier to correct than chasing a highlight metric.
