Fortnite Ranked measures your results across Battle Royale, Zero Build, and Reload. Each experience has a separate rank, so progress in one queue does not carry into the others. Your placement and eliminations move a visible progress bar from Bronze through Unreal, with a partial reset at the start of a new season.

How to unlock Ranked in Fortnite

New accounts must complete the Outlast 500 players Kickstart quest. The counter advances as opponents are eliminated before you across eligible matches; you do not need to defeat all 500 yourself. Once the quest is complete, select an Epic-made ranked experience and switch Ranked on in the lobby.

If Ranked does not appear, confirm that you are selecting Battle Royale, Zero Build, or Reload rather than a creator-made island. Epic can also temporarily disable an individual ranked playlist for maintenance or a season transition.

How Fortnite calculates rank progress

Epic publicly confirms two core inputs: placement and eliminations. The exact formula and weights are not published. Treat any third-party percentage calculator as an estimate, not a guarantee.

The progress bar is the practical measure. A strong match raises its percentage; a poor result can reduce it. Reaching 100% promotes you to the next division or rank. Once you enter Unreal, the percentage bar is replaced by your position on the Unreal leaderboard, which can move as other Unreal players continue playing.

Do damage, assists, or loot affect rank?

Epic does not list damage dealt, rarity of loot, materials farmed, or time spent moving as direct scoring inputs. Those actions matter only when they help produce eliminations and a better placement. Avoid risking an otherwise strong endgame merely to pad a statistic that is not part of the published criteria.

Battle Royale, Zero Build, and Reload ranks are separate

Battle Royale tests building, edits, rotations, and combat. Zero Build removes player-built cover and puts more weight on terrain, bunkers, mobility, and natural sightlines. Reload has a smaller map and reboot-focused rules that create more frequent fights. Because those skill sets differ, Fortnite stores a separate rank for each experience.

Party matchmaking uses the highest-ranked player in the group as the reference point. A lower-ranked teammate should expect more demanding lobbies when joining a higher-ranked party. Rank progression remains individual, so teammates can gain or lose different percentages after the same match.

Season resets, tournaments, and Ranked rewards

Ranks partially reset when a new season begins. Your prior performance helps seed the new climb, but you must play again to reveal and advance the current-season rank. Epic does not promise one universal drop for every player, so screenshots claiming that every rank resets by the same number of divisions should be treated cautiously.

Ranked also connects to seasonal quests and competitive eligibility. Some Epic-hosted tournaments, including the FNCS pathway, require a minimum rank. Requirements can differ by event and region, so check the event’s official rules rather than assuming last season’s threshold still applies.

How to rank up faster in Fortnite

1. Choose repeatable drop routes. Learn two landing spots with enough loot, shields, and nearby rotation options instead of changing POIs every match.
2. Take fights with an exit. Third parties are common. Carry mobility or know the nearest cover before committing.
3. Play the moving zone early. Rotating before the storm forces you out leaves time to claim elevation and avoid desperate edge fights.
4. Convert advantages. Shield cracks, knockdowns, and high ground are valuable only if your team pushes together without exposing itself to another squad.
5. Review deaths, not only wins. Track whether losses came from aim, a late rotation, poor inventory, or an unnecessary engagement.

Can you lose Elite rank?

You can lose progress inside Elite, but Epic’s current support page says you cannot be demoted below Elite for the rest of that season once you reach it.

Is Unreal permanent?

Unreal is locked for the remainder of the current season. Your leaderboard position can fall, and the next seasonal reset starts a new climb.

Does Zero Build share a rank with Battle Royale?
