Wuthering Waves offers plenty of reasons to dive in, but let’s be real—the gacha system is a huge part of the experience. Not only does it add that thrill of testing your luck, but it also lets you unlock powerful characters to use in combat and while exploring the world. Once you reach the point in the story where the gacha (or “Convene”) system unlocks, you’ll notice several different banners, each with their own rules, rates, and unique rewards. None of the banners share pity, so knowing which one to spend your resources on is key. In this guide, we’ll break down everything you need to know about how the gacha system works in Wuthering Waves and help you make smarter pulls from the start.
You won’t be able to access the gacha system right away when you start Wuthering Waves. The game begins with you playing as the Rover, waking up with amnesia alongside Yangyang and Chixia. After progressing through a short tutorial and defeating your first major boss, you’ll arrive in the main city, Jinzhou.
Once you reach Jinzhou, the story continues with some key introductions. You’ll meet Sanhua and unlock core features like the Levitator and Sensor. From there, you’ll be guided to a research facility where you’ll meet two important characters—Mortefi and Baizhi. After your conversation with Baizhi wraps up, the Convene (gacha) system becomes available, and you’ll be able to start summoning characters and weapons.
The Novice Convene is the first banner you’ll unlock when the summoning system becomes available in Wuthering Waves. It uses Lustrous Tides as its currency, and comes with a great bonus for early players: every 10-pull costs only 8 Lustrous Tides, thanks to a 20% discount. That makes it the best value banner when you’re just getting started.
This banner is designed to help you get your first 5-star resonator. You’re guaranteed to pull one random standard 5-star character from the following pool within 50 pulls: Encore, Jianxin, Lingyang, Calcharo, or Verina. Once you get a 5-star from the Novice banner, it disappears permanently from your game. Also, it doesn’t share pity with any other banners—so all your pulls here are completely separate.
Here’s how the drop rates work for each pull:
• 5-Star Drop Rate: 0.8%
• 4-Star Drop Rate: 6%
• 3-Star Drop Rate: 93.2%
If you don’t get a 5-star by your 49th pull, the 50th pull is guaranteed to give you one. When you land a 4-star, it can either be a character or a weapon. If you’re just starting out, this banner is hands-down the most efficient way to build a strong early-game roster.
The Beginner’s Choice Convene is one of the most exciting banners in Wuthering Waves because it lets you pick your guaranteed 5-star character. This banner becomes available only after you pull your first 5-star from the Novice Banner—once that happens, the Novice Banner disappears and the Beginner’s Choice takes its place.
Like the Novice Banner, this one also uses Lustrous Tides and follows the same drop rates for 3-star, 4-star, and 5-star items. The big difference? The pity counter goes up to 80, meaning you’ll need to do up to 80 pulls to get your guaranteed 5-star. Once you reach that milestone and claim your chosen 5-star, the banner disappears permanently.
Just like the Novice Banner, this one does not share pity with any other banner, so your pulls here are completely separate. It’s a one-time opportunity to lock in a strong unit of your choice, so make sure to think carefully before making your pick!
How To Use the Voucher of Reciprocal Tides in Wuthering Waves
If you’re new to Wuthering Waves and noticed a Voucher of Reciprocal Tides sitting in your inventory, you might be wondering what it’s for. This special item is used to claim one free 5-star character—but only through a limited-time banner.
To use it, head into the Convene (gacha) screen, and look for a unique version of the Beginner’s Choice Convene banner. This one is different from the regular version because it doesn’t cost you any Lustrous Tides or Astrite. Instead, you’ll simply use the Voucher to make a single guaranteed pull for the 5-star character you personally select.
It’s a one-time, free reward, and it’s available to all players until May 22, 2025. Don’t let it sit there unused—make your pick and lock in one of the strongest characters for your team without spending a thing.
In Wuthering Waves, Event Convene banners are where most of the hype happens—these banners are your shot at scoring limited-time characters and their signature weapons. There are two types of Event Convene banners: one for featured characters and another for their exclusive weapons.
Each Event Banner runs for around three weeks, giving you a short window to grab the spotlight 5-star unit or weapon. Once the banner ends, these limited options won’t return until a future rerun—so if you’re a free-to-play or low-spending player, this is where you’ll want to spend your Astrite wisely.
Pulls work on the same 80-pull pity system, but there’s a catch: when you do pull a 5-star, there’s a 50/50 chance it’ll be the featured limited character. If you don’t get them the first time (and pull a standard 5-star instead), you’re guaranteed to get the featured one on your next 5-star pull. This system gives you peace of mind and makes your investment feel less risky.
The pity count carries over between banners of the same type, too. So, for example, if you do 40 pulls on one Character Event banner and it ends, you’ll start the next Character Event banner at pull 41. The same goes for Weapon banners.
To summon, you’ll need different currencies: Radiant Tides for characters and Forging Tides for weapons. Both cost 160 Astrite per pull, so save up and plan carefully depending on which banner you’re aiming for.
Wuthering Waves also features two permanent banners that are always available: one for characters and one for weapons. These banners are your go-to for building out your roster over time, especially if you’re not chasing limited-time units. Both use Lustrous Tides, so there’s no need to spend premium currency like Astrite here.
Just like the event banners, both permanent banners come with an 80-pull pity, meaning you’re guaranteed a 5-star by your 80th pull if you haven’t gotten one sooner. The Character Convene banner will give you one of the standard 5-star characters at random when you hit pity—there’s no way to choose who you’ll get.
The Weapon Convene, however, gives you a bit more control. Every time you reach the 5-star pity, you get to select which 5-star weapon you want to receive. This makes it a more reliable way to gear up your favorite characters without leaving it completely to chance.
These banners don’t rotate or expire, making them a solid long-term option for expanding your lineup or chasing specific gear at your own pace.
Every time you pull a character or weapon through the gacha system in Wuthering Waves, you’ll earn bonus currencies—Afterglow Corals and Oscillated Corals—which you can use in special in-game shops. These currencies are tied to the rarity and number of copies you pull.
When it comes to five-star characters, you’ll get 15 Afterglow Corals for the first seven copies of any specific unit (including the original pull). Once you’ve hit that seven-copy mark, future duplicates will reward 40 Afterglow Corals each. The same 15 Corals are also granted for any five-star weapon pull.
For four-star pulls, you’ll receive 3 Afterglow Corals per character (up to the first seven copies). After that, duplicates of that same four-star character reward 8 Corals. Every time you pull a three-star weapon, you’ll earn 15 Oscillated Corals.
So what can you spend these on? Afterglow Corals can be traded for character Wavebands (which boost your Resonance Chain) or extra summon currency. Meanwhile, Oscillated Corals are mostly good for picking up six additional summons per month of each tide type. If you’re F2P or low-spending, it’s a smart move to hold onto your Afterglow Corals and save them for Wavebands tied to your favorite five-star characters—especially limited ones.
To wrap things up, Wuthering Waves’ gacha system is packed with variety, giving players plenty of ways to summon both characters and weapons through banners like Novice, Beginner’s Choice, Event, and Permanent Convenes. Each one has its own mechanics, rates, and strategies, making it important to know where and when to spend your tides or Astrite. Whether you’re a casual player or aiming for that perfect five-star squad, understanding how banners, pity, and the bonus currency work will help you get the most value from your pulls. With smart planning and a bit of luck, you can build a powerful team without wasting resources.
