To change the name shown on your Wild Rift profile, edit your Riot ID at account.riotgames.com. You can do this in your phone's browser: change the Game Name, the tagline after #, or both, then save. Riot ID changes are free and available once every 90 days.

Before changing the name, confirm the Riot account
Mobile players are more likely to have several possible sign-in routes, so confirm the account before saving anything. Open your Wild Rift profile and note the full public ID, including the text after #. Then sign in to Riot Account Management and check that the Riot ID there matches.
- If both full IDs match, you have the correct account.
- If the website shows another ID, sign out without making a change and try the login method attached to your Wild Rift profile.
- If you cannot reach the account at all, recover it through Riot before attempting a rename.
Guest or local profiles: some regional builds or publisher-managed versions may expose a guest-style profile instead of a completed Riot account. Riot Account Management cannot rename that profile until you use the official in-game or regional-publisher process to complete or bind the account. Use the support route shown inside your version of Wild Rift, and do not unlink or bind accounts blindly; an incorrect link can separate you from progress or purchases.
A display-name change cannot move progress, champions, skins, ranks, or purchases between accounts. If you are comparing profile details with a friend, our guide to adding friends in Wild Rift explains why both the Game Name and tagline matter.
How to change your Wild Rift name from a phone
- Open Safari, Chrome, or another current mobile browser.
- Go directly to the official Riot Account page.
- Sign in to the Riot account connected to your Wild Rift profile.
- In the Riot ID section, enter a new Game Name, a new tagline, or both.
- Read the complete Game Name#tagline combination once more, then select Save Changes.
- Return to Wild Rift. If the old name remains, fully close and reopen the app.
The account website is the supported, interface-independent route. A Wild Rift build may include a link to account management, but menu wording and availability can vary after updates and by publisher or region. You do not need an unofficial app, a configuration-file edit, or a Wild Core purchase.
Game Name, tagline, and username are different fields
Suppose your Wild Rift profile shows RiverScuttle#CRAB. “RiverScuttle” is the Game Name and “CRAB” is the tagline. Together they form the public Riot ID. The private username used to sign in is not part of that display name.
| Field | Visible to other players? | Current change rule |
|---|---|---|
| Game Name | Yes | Editable as part of a free Riot ID change |
| Tagline | Yes, when the full ID is shown or searched | Editable, but even a tag-only edit starts the 90-day cooldown |
| Login username | No | Normally permanent; Riot Support reviews only extraordinary cases |
Changing the Riot ID does not alter the login username, password, email address, or account region. If the problem is that you cannot remember the private credential, use Riot's account-recovery tools rather than repeatedly editing the public name.
Wild Rift name rules and the 90-day cooldown
- Cost: Riot ID changes are free. Riot does not sell an early-change option.
- Cooldown: 90 days from the account's previous free Riot ID change.
- Game Name: 3–16 alphanumeric characters under Riot's current support rules.
- Tagline: 3–5 alphanumeric characters.
- Availability: the full Game Name#tagline pair must be available; the Game Name alone can be shared.
- Content: Riot rejects inappropriate names, personal information, “Riot” or look-alike branding, and esports-pro impersonation.
What happens after you save the new Riot ID?
The rename follows the Riot account. Wild Rift should show the new public identity after its account data refreshes, and the same name appears in other Riot games connected to that account. It does not reset your game data.
The change affects
- The public name and full friend-search ID
- League, TFT, VALORANT, and other Riot games on the same account
- How existing friends see that account once their client refreshes
The change does not affect
- Champions, skins, Wild Cores, ranks, or match history
- Login username, password, or linked email
- Region, shard, matchmaking, or device settings
Riot says existing friends remain on the list under the new identity. You may still want to tell frequent teammates before changing it. Profile identity also has no effect on controls or graphics; those are covered separately in our Wild Rift settings guide.
Fix Wild Rift name-change problems
The new name does not appear in the app
- Reload account.riotgames.com and confirm that the new Riot ID was saved.
- Close Wild Rift completely rather than leaving it suspended in the background.
- Reopen the game; sign out and back in only if the profile remains stale.
- Wait for third-party stat pages to update their own cached records.
“This Riot ID is already in use”
Try a different eligible tagline. The Game Name before # can be shared, but the complete pair cannot. Riot also uses this error for some reserved regional tags, so a tag such as NA1 or EUW may be the problem.
The change is locked
Check whether 90 days have passed since the account's last Riot ID edit. Wild Cores cannot bypass the cooldown. Riot says a player whose recent ID is causing harassment or another negative effect can submit a Player Support ticket, but support decides whether an exception applies.
You signed in with Apple, Google, Facebook, or another provider
Use the sign-in method linked to the Riot account behind the Wild Rift profile. If Riot Account Management asks you to complete account details, follow the official flow before editing the ID. Do not unlink a login provider merely to change a display name.
Your regional version uses a publishing partner
Account menus and support ownership can differ in partner-operated regional releases. Use the support link inside that version of Wild Rift if the standard Riot Account page does not recognize the account. Avoid transferring credentials to unofficial “rename” sites.
A profile rename does not change rank or matchmaking. If that is what you were trying to fix, see how the Wild Rift ranking system works instead.
Wild Rift name-change FAQ
Does changing a Wild Rift name cost Wild Cores?
No. The current Riot ID change is free once every 90 days. There is no paid early-change option.
Can I rename Wild Rift without changing League or VALORANT?
Not if those games use the same Riot account. Riot ID is universal across that account's Riot games.
Can two Wild Rift players use the same Game Name?
Yes, when their taglines differ. The full Game Name#tagline combination must be available.
Can I change the username used to log in?
Normally no. Riot separates the private, globally unique login username from the public Riot ID. Use account recovery if the login is the problem.
Does a name change delete friends or purchases?
No. Those stay with the same Riot account; only the public identity changes.
