Your Teamfight Tactics player name comes from your Riot ID. Change it for free at account.riotgames.com, then reopen TFT if the old name is still cached. Riot allows one Riot ID change every 90 days, and the same change appears on TFT PC and TFT Mobile when both use the same Riot account.

What name does Teamfight Tactics display?
TFT uses the Riot ID attached to the account you signed into. A Riot ID is written as Game Name#tagline. For example, in RollAtSeven#TFT, “RollAtSeven” is the Game Name and “TFT” is the tagline.
| Name | Purpose | Where to change it |
|---|---|---|
| Riot ID Game Name | Your public player name in TFT and other Riot games | Riot Account page |
| Tagline | The 3–5 character suffix after # that completes the Riot ID | Riot Account page |
| Login username | Private credential used to sign in | Normally cannot be changed |
| Tactician | Your Little Legend or Chibi avatar | TFT loadout, not account identity |
| Team-planner label | A private name for a saved composition | Team Planner, not Riot Account |
Your Game Name does not need to be unique by itself. The whole Game Name#tagline pair must be available, which is why two people can appear with the same visible name until their tags are shown. When you want to invite someone after a rename, use both parts; our guide to adding friends in TFT explains that format.
How to change your TFT name on PC or Mac
The shortest route works in any browser:
- Go to the official Riot Account page.
- Sign in to the same Riot account used by TFT.
- Open the Riot ID section.
- Replace the Game Name, tagline, or both.
- Select Save Changes.
- Close and reopen the League client if TFT still shows the old name.
The League-client shortcut
Because TFT on desktop runs through the League client, Riot also provides an in-client path: open Shop, choose the Account button, select Riot ID Change, and follow the account-page prompt. This is only a shortcut to the website. It does not cost RP or Blue Essence.
How to change your name from TFT Mobile
TFT Mobile does not need a separate mobile-only rename. Use your phone's browser and edit the Riot ID attached to the app:
- Before leaving TFT, note the full Riot ID shown on your profile so you can confirm the account.
- Open Safari, Chrome, or another current browser and visit account.riotgames.com.
- Use the sign-in method connected to that TFT profile. Do not assume a similarly named account is the same one.
- Edit the Game Name and/or tagline in the Riot ID section, then save.
- Force-close TFT Mobile and relaunch it. Sign out and back in only if a normal relaunch does not refresh the profile.
How the new name syncs between TFT PC and mobile
Riot ties the Riot ID to the account rather than the device. The new display name therefore follows the same account to TFT on PC, Mac, Android, and iOS. It also becomes that account's public identity in League, VALORANT, Wild Rift, and other Riot titles that display Riot ID.
| Platform | Where to edit | If the old name remains |
|---|---|---|
| League/TFT desktop client | Account website or Shop > Account > Riot ID Change | Exit both League and Riot Client, then reopen |
| TFT Mobile | Account website in a mobile browser | Force-close the app; sign out/in if needed |
| Third-party stat sites | Cannot edit the official ID | Wait for that service's Riot-data cache to refresh |
A rename does not reset rank, matchmaking data, pass progress, Little Legends, Chibis, arenas, currency, or purchases. If you are returning after a break, our TFT beginner guide covers the game systems separately.
Current Riot ID limits
- Price: free, with no paid early-change option.
- Frequency: once every 90 days.
- Game Name: 3–16 alphanumeric characters.
- Tagline: 3–5 alphanumeric characters.
- Availability: the complete Game Name#tagline pair must not already be in use.
- Policy: no offensive content, personal information, “Riot” impersonation, or esports-pro impersonation.
Changing only the tagline still uses the same 90-day change. Riot also reserves regional codes. Once you leave a default region tagline, you cannot switch back to a reserved one, so do not treat the tag as a server selector.
Why your TFT name did not change
The website says the Riot ID is already in use
Keep the Game Name and test a different eligible tagline. If you tried a region-style tag such as NA1 or EUW, use a non-reserved tag instead. The whole pair—not the Game Name alone—is the availability check.
The new name appears on PC but not mobile, or vice versa
Compare the full Riot IDs and account details on both platforms. Different IDs mean you signed into different Riot accounts. If they match, close both clients fully and relaunch before assuming the change failed.
The Riot ID section is locked
The account is probably inside its 90-day cooldown. There is no TFT Coin, RP, or mobile-store purchase that shortens it. Riot may review a support ticket when a recent ID is causing harassment, but ordinary preference changes must wait.
You forgot the private username
A Riot ID is not a login username. Use Riot's official account-recovery tools for sign-in trouble; do not enter credentials into TFT stat sites or “free rename” tools. Riot says login usernames normally cannot be changed.
Once the account is sorted, the fastest improvements come from gameplay rather than profile changes. These practical TFT ranking tips are a separate next step.
TFT name-change FAQ
Can TFT have a different name from League?
Not when both games use the same Riot account. Riot ID is account-wide, so the public name changes in both.
Do I need a PC to change my TFT Mobile name?
No. Use a mobile browser to open Riot Account Management. The desktop client shortcut is optional.
Does changing my Riot ID change my Tactician?
No. Your Tactician is a loadout choice. Riot ID is the public account name.
Will the rename remove my rank or cosmetics?
No. They remain attached to the same Riot account.
Why does a stat site still show my old name?
Third-party services cache account data on their own schedules. Confirm the official name in the game or Riot Account page first, then wait for the external profile to refresh.
