What is the current League of Legends season?
The current ranked season is 2026 Season 3. Riot ended Season 2 at 11:59 p.m. local server time on July 28 and opened Season 3 at noon local server time on July 29 with Patch 26.15.
Riot has not confirmed the Season 3 end date. The 2026 ranked year will likely finish around the first patch of 2027, but that is a pattern-based expectation—not an official deadline. We will replace it with the confirmed date when Riot publishes it.
Why newer LoL seasons look different
2010–2022: one annual competitive season
For most of League's history, a numbered season ran from early in the year until November. Preseason then separated the competitive deadline from the next ranked opening.
2023–2024: multiple ranked splits inside one season
Riot added midyear ranked splits, but players still referred to the whole calendar as Season 13 or Season 14. The split boundaries were reward checkpoints, not separate numbered seasons.
2025 onward: three seasons per ranked year
Riot retired the old numbered naming scheme after Season 14. A calendar year now contains three shorter seasons, each divided into two acts. Your visible rank normally carries between seasons inside the same year; the main rank reset happens when the new ranked year begins in January.
This is why calling 2025 “Season 15” is understandable shorthand but not Riot's official format. It is clearer to write “2025 Season 1,” “2025 Season 2,” and “2025 Season 3.”
What happens when a League season ends?
At each season boundary, the Victorious reward mission closes and a new one begins. In the current system, players earn that season's Victorious skin by completing the required ranked wins and meeting Riot's Honor requirement. Rank determines the matching chroma rather than access to the base skin. See our guide to earning Victorious skins for the current rules.
The January transition is the important reset: Riot runs provisional games and recalibrates ranks for the new ranked year. The shorter season transitions during the year usually preserve the climb. If ranked access—not the date—is the problem, our explanation of LoL ranked restrictions covers the separate eligibility rules.
League season FAQ
How many League of Legends seasons have there been?
League had 14 officially numbered seasons through 2024. Counting the three seasons in 2025 and the first three in 2026 gives 20 ranked season periods through the current 2026 Season 3.
When does the current LoL season end?
Riot has not announced an end date for 2026 Season 3 as of August 17, 2026. Treat exact dates on unofficial calendars as estimates until Riot confirms the deadline in patch notes or the client.
Does rank reset three times per year?
No. There are three ranked seasons, but Riot's standard full rank reset happens at the beginning of the ranked year in January. Your rank generally carries from Season 1 to Season 2 and from Season 2 to Season 3.
Are League seasons and esports seasons the same?
No. The in-game ranked calendar and professional leagues use different schedules. Worlds dates, regional league starts, and Clash weekends do not define the Solo/Duo or Flex season deadlines.

The short version: League's first 14 seasons were numbered annual campaigns; today's ranked year is split into three seasons. Use the master table for historical dates, and rely on Riot—not projections—for the current season's final deadline.
