How Long Is an ARAM Game in League of Legends?

How Long Is an ARAM Game in League of Legends?

AI Summary

For either standard ARAM or ARAM: Mayhem, reserve a flexible 30–40-minute session, with room to keep playing if it runs longer. That is a scheduling recommendation, including queueing and loading—not the length of one match. A reliable current match average could not be verified for either mode, and there isn’t enough comparable evidence to say Mayhem consistently finishes sooner.

How long does a standard ARAM match last?

There is no fixed normal finish time: an ARAM ends when a team destroys the opposing Nexus, or an eligible early-ending vote succeeds. A one-lane map concentrates the action, but it doesn’t guarantee a short game. A kill lead can disappear into several failed pushes before either team reaches the Nexus.

You’ll often see a 15–20 or 15–25-minute average online. The duration guides checked for this update did not provide a sufficiently documented current match sample for those figures. They should not be treated as a promise—or relabeled as a current Riot statistic. The 30–40-minute allowance above is deliberately a whole-session recommendation, not a replacement average.

Standard ARAM currently uses Champion Cards rather than the old champion-reroll system. Riot’s ARAM support overview lists Howling Abyss, Butcher’s Bridge and Koeshin’s Crossing in its map rotation. For the wider lineup, see our League maps and game modes guide. A change of map should not be mistaken for a different, fixed match timer.

How long is an ARAM: Mayhem game?

Mayhem also needs an open-ended time commitment. No authoritative current average was found, and the available third-party figures did not supply enough detail to establish a reliable comparison with standard ARAM. Don’t select it just because the word “Mayhem” suggests a faster finish.

As of the verification date, Riot’s Mayhem support page says the mode remains available until further notice. It is a separate queue, not a replacement for standard ARAM, and retains the single-lane team-versus-team format with Augments layered on top. The duration of a match is a different question from how long an event or reward track remains available.

Augment choices create power spikes, not a countdown

The normal selection sequence is an opening choice, then choices at levels 7, 11 and 15. Riot’s original Mayhem explanation states that sequence; current Support still describes four selection phases but awkwardly lists level 3 as an “additional” choice alongside the opening one. We do not count that wording as confirmation of a fifth normal phase. Later choices are claimed on death, so reaching a level and using its new power are not necessarily the same moment.

Mayhem disables normal rune settings. Its current systems also differ from early-2026 guides: patch 26.12 replaced the Trait system with changes including Ability Augments and expanded Quest Augments. These can change how abilities work or reward in-match progress. The current patch continues adjusting which Augments champions receive; old launch impressions are not a current duration study.

Why the same mode can produce very different match lengths

Winning a fight only helps if you can finish the push

A team that wins a fight with healthy survivors and a usable minion wave can convert that opening into structures. If everyone retreats, chases the last enemy or dies after the fight, the opposing team may return before the push gets anywhere. A large kill lead and a quick finish are not the same thing.

Composition matters in both directions. Reliable wave clear can erase a push before it reaches a turret. A team with good structure damage may punish a short opening, while a lineup that wins scattered fights but struggles to hit buildings can take longer to close.

Mayhem can strengthen the defense as well as the attack

An offensive combination can create a decisive fight. But defensive combinations can let opponents survive that burst, scaling can give them a reason to keep defending, and strong wave clear can deny the attackers a clean push. More powerful effects do not, by themselves, prove that the average match gets shorter.

Deaths interrupt pressure and give returning players a chance to spend gold; in Mayhem they can also unlock an available Augment choice. Repeated trades may reset the fight rather than end the game. For a fuller explanation of the systems, our ARAM: Mayhem mechanics guide keeps the gameplay detail separate from this timing comparison.

How much time should you set aside, including the queue?

Budget for four separate parts: matchmaking, champion selection, loading and the match itself. Recorded game time covers the last part, not your full time at the computer. A fast queue cannot compensate for a drawn-out game, and a client queue estimate cannot predict the finish.

The flexible 30–40-minute slot used here is editorial scheduling guidance. It was not calculated from a current mean, median or percentile, and it does not establish the chance that your session will fit. Using the same allowance for both modes is a cautious way to avoid assuming Mayhem is quicker—not a finding that they take equally long.

  • With a hard stop in 20 minutes, do not start either team queue. Review a previous game or a guide instead.
  • With 30–40 flexible minutes, only queue if you can stay beyond that window when needed.
  • If matchmaking is already taking longer than you expected, reassess before accepting a match. Do not solve a scheduling problem by dodging, going AFK or pressuring teammates to surrender.

For a more relevant personal estimate, check the durations of your recent League matches and separately note time spent queueing and loading. Keep standard ARAM and Mayhem records separate, identify unusually short results, and do not treat your own history as a global average.

Surrender, remakes and match time limits

Riot restored standard ARAM’s earliest surrender eligibility to 8 minutes in patch 14.18. That is eligibility for a team vote, not an eight-minute match timer or a guaranteed exit. No later official reversal was found in this review. The same exact timetable was not independently verified for current Mayhem, so it is not copied across here.

A remake addresses qualifying early inactivity or disconnections; it is not a way to shorten a normal game. Riot’s remake FAQ includes Howling Abyss and rotating modes in its scope, but its timing table and older FAQ examples disagree. Follow the eligibility message in the client rather than relying on a universal remake timestamp for both queues.

Both modes retain the Nexus objective, but that does not establish that every surrender or remake rule is identical. The official sources reviewed do not document a normal clock-expiry win condition or a fixed maximum duration for either. A long game is not permission to leave it.

Is ARAM: Mayhem longer than regular ARAM?

The available evidence does not establish that Mayhem is consistently longer—or shorter. Comparing two unsourced averages would create an answer that looks precise but is not dependable. A useful comparison needs correctly identified matches from similar patches, regions and collection periods, with the same rules for remakes and surrenders.

Choose standard ARAM if you want the familiar format without Mayhem’s Augment layer. Choose Mayhem for those additional combinations, not as a reliable time-saving option. In either queue, leave enough flexibility to play through an unexpectedly close finish.

What supports this timing advice?

This guide checks current PC rules against Riot Support and patch 26.18. No personal queue test or new match sample was conducted. The inspected duration sources did not establish a suitable current mean, median or percentile for either mode, so none is presented as measured fact. The preparation buffer is a recommendation, not a statistical result.

A future measured update would deduplicate completed games by match ID, identify each queue correctly, record the patch and region, and disclose how remakes, surrenders and abnormal results were handled. Standard ARAM, Mayhem, Classic-ish variants, custom games, Clash and Wild Rift must not be pooled.

Quick questions

Does a Mayhem reward deadline mean the mode is ending?

Not by itself. A progression or reward-claim deadline describes that track. Check Riot’s separate mode-availability notice for an actual removal announcement; the current support notice says Mayhem continues until further notice.

Why is my session longer than the match-history time?

The history entry does not include all the preparation before gameplay. Count queueing, champion selection and loading separately when deciding whether another game fits your evening.

Do these figures cover Wild Rift or ARAM Clash?

No. This page concerns ordinary PC standard ARAM and ARAM: Mayhem queues. Wild Rift is a separate game, and a Clash session can involve tournament preparation and multiple matches.

Update, September 15, 2026: expanded the existing ARAM duration guide to compare standard ARAM and Mayhem on one page; rechecked current rules and kept scheduling advice separate from unverified match averages.
