Valorant is known for its highly competitive nature, and there are days when things just don’t go your way, leaving you wanting to exit the game early. While quitting a match can lead to temporary bans due to the impact it has on other players, surrendering is a far better option that allows you to gracefully bow out without penalties.
If you’re considering surrendering a match, this guide will walk you through the process to do so without facing a ban. Additionally, if an ally goes AFK during the first round, there’s also the option to remake the game, saving everyone the trouble of playing an imbalanced match.
Let’s dive into how to surrender properly in Valorant and avoid any penalties.
Surrendering in a Valorant match is simple and can be done in two ways. The fastest option is to type “/ff”, “/surrender”, or “/concede” directly into the chat. Alternatively, you can access the surrender feature by pressing the Escape key and finding the Surrender button under the team volume settings.
The option to surrender becomes available starting in the 5th round, allowing teams a few rounds to assess their chances before deciding. Once the surrender vote is initiated, a voting prompt will appear in the bottom left corner of the screen. Players can vote “Yes” by pressing F5 or “No” by pressing F6, with the player initiating the vote automatically voting “Yes.”
The surrender vote requirements in Valorant vary depending on the game mode. In Competitive matches, the entire team must unanimously agree to surrender, meaning all players must vote “Yes” for the match to end. On the other hand, Unrated games are more lenient, requiring 4 out of 5 players to vote “Yes” for the surrender to pass. Any players who don’t cast a vote are automatically counted as “No,” ensuring that everyone’s input matters.
Once a surrender vote is successful, the match officially ends at the start of the next round. For example, if the vote is passed in Round 8, the game will conclude at the beginning of Round 9. This system allows for a seamless exit without interrupting the flow of the game.
Surrendering in Competitive mode carries serious consequences. When a team surrenders, all remaining rounds are automatically counted as losses, which can negatively affect your competitive rank, making it a costly decision.
However, you still earn experience points (XP) for the rounds you’ve completed before the surrender. In standard modes, XP is granted for each round played, ensuring you’re rewarded for the time invested. In Team Deathmatch, surrendering is handled differently, with a flat rate of XP and AP awarded based on the total time you’ve participated in the match. This ensures that even in surrendered games, your efforts are recognized.
In Competitive mode, surrendering should be reserved for extreme circumstances, such as encountering confirmed cheaters or when multiple teammates have disconnected. Given the harsh impact surrendering has on your rank, it’s usually better to fight until the end, as every round counts.
In Unrated matches, surrendering is less consequential since ranking points aren’t on the line. However, keep in mind that Valorant’s round-based format often allows for remarkable comebacks, so it’s worth pushing through even when the odds seem stacked against you.
Surrendering in Valorant is a useful option when a match becomes unwinnable or unplayable due to extreme circumstances. While it’s a straightforward process, knowing when and how to use it is crucial, especially in Competitive mode where surrendering carries significant consequences for your rank. In Unrated matches, surrendering offers more flexibility but should still be considered carefully, as Valorant’s round-based structure often leaves room for comebacks. Understanding the mechanics of surrendering allows you to make informed decisions, helping you navigate challenging matches while minimizing penalties.
