Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 1 shakes things up with a fresh island, surfing instead of the usual Battle Bus drop, and a brand-new mechanic that lets you actually become a boss mid-match. This new feature turns your character into a powerhouse with special abilities and unique weapons, letting you dominate fights and flip any battle in your favor. If you want to walk around the island as the strongest player in the lobby, here’s how the boss transformation works in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 1 and what you need to do to unlock it.

If you want to become a boss in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 1, you’ll first need to track down and eliminate one of the three roaming bosses—Hush, Brutus, or Human Bill. These bosses don’t spawn in fixed locations, but they always appear somewhere across the island’s 13 POIs. Their movement can be unpredictable, but players have consistently spotted them in several hotspots. You’re most likely to find them at areas like Painted Palms, the Pumping Station right beside it, or the Paws Inn landmark near Wonkeeland. They also tend to show up at Sunset Falls just south of Wonkeeland, Innoloop Labs, Humble Hills, Ripped Tides, and even Classified Canyon. Since their spawns rotate every match, glide into these locations early, listen for boss voice lines, and watch for their health bars to appear once you get close. Taking them down quickly guarantees the best chance to transform into a boss yourself.

Turning yourself into a boss in Fortnite Chapter 7 is actually pretty simple once you know what to look for. Whenever a boss spawns on the island, they’ll appear on your minimap with a skull icon, so head toward that marker as soon as you spot it. Each boss — Hush, Brutus, or Human Bill — fights differently, so adjust your approach. Hush is usually found around Painted Palms and goes down quickly if you rush her with a shotgun since she carries a mythic AR. Brutus tends to show up near the Pumping Station and is easier to handle from mid-range because of his double shotgun. Human Bill often appears at Innoloop Labs or Ripped Tides and is safest to fight from distance thanks to his mythic Arc-Lightning Gun. After you take out the boss and their two henchmen, they’ll drop a mythic weapon and a glowing medallion. Walk up to the medallion and hold the interact button to transform into that boss instantly. Your character becomes larger, takes on their appearance, and gains their special ability kit, but the downside is that everyone on the map can see your location, and you can’t swap or drop the medallion. The effect lasts until you’re eliminated, at which point another player can grab it and take the boss role for themselves. Each boss grants a different mythic and passive bonus—Hush gives you speed and stamina boosts, Brutus provides regenerating shields, and Human Bill reduces gravity for easier movement. With the right timing, becoming a boss can completely shift a match in your favor.
Turning into a boss in Fortnite Chapter 7 is one of the most fun additions this season, and it completely changes how a match plays out. Once you know where Hush, Brutus, and Human Bill can spawn—and how to take them down—you gain access to mythic weapons and medallion abilities that instantly put you above everyone else. Just remember that becoming a boss also puts a target on your back, so you’ll have to play smart once the entire lobby knows where you are. If you follow the steps in this guide and keep an eye on those spawn locations, you’ll have no trouble claiming the boss role and using its power to push for an easy Victory Royale.
