If you’ve been exploring the wasteland and pushing deeper into the tougher zones of Arc Raiders, you’ve probably noticed a new item popping up since the Stella Montis update — Ion Sputters. Even though they don’t have a major use yet, they’re exactly the kind of item that suddenly becomes important the moment a new project, quest, or crafting recipe arrives. Because of that, stacking a few early is never a bad idea.
Ion Sputters are treated like most tech junk in Arc Raiders: rare enough to matter, but common enough that dedicated scavengers can track them down with the right route. In this article, you’ll learn where they spawn most consistently, why they’re worth collecting, and how to farm them without wasting half your raid. This way, once the game decides to give these items a real purpose, you’ll already be ahead of everyone else digging through electrical scraps.

Ion Sputters are one of those items in Arc Raiders that almost feel like an inside joke from the devs — rare enough to catch your eye, but with no real purpose yet. The important part is knowing where they show up, because unlike most materials, these only seem to spawn on the Stella Montis map. If you’re farming anywhere else, you’re basically wasting your time.
The best places to track them down on Stella Montis are Assembly, Medical Research, and Business Center. Assembly and Business Center fall under the Exodus material category, which gives items like Ion Sputters a noticeably higher drop rate. Even though neither location is marked as “high-tier loot,” Stella Montis as a whole tends to drop better items than the other battlegrounds, so the odds naturally work in your favor.
Out of all these spots, Medical Research has been my most consistent farming zone. The entire area is packed with breachable containers, scattered loose loot, server racks, and shelved items, so you can clear the building in one sweep and usually walk out with at least one Epic material — sometimes an Ion Sputter, sometimes something else valuable. It’s located on the southwest side of the map and is extremely easy to route through.
Another location worth checking is the Assembly Workshop in the northwest corner. Personally, my luck here is hit-or-miss, but a lot of players swear by it. It has high loot density and enough container variety to give you a decent shot at Epic-tier materials, even if Ion Sputters don’t always show up every run.
As for their purpose right now? They don’t have one. They aren’t tied to quests, crafting, or the Expedition Project — but that doesn’t mean they’re useless. Selling them nets a clean 6,000 Coins, and dismantling them gives 4 Voltage Converters and an Exodus Module, both of which are used for high-end gear like Heavy Shields and the Bobcat SMG. So even if Ion Sputters don’t do anything themselves, they still end up paying off.
Finding Ion Sputters in Arc Raiders becomes much easier once you know they’re tied almost entirely to Stella Montis, and focusing your runs around Assembly, Business Center, and especially Medical Research will give you the best results. Even though these items don’t have a direct use yet, they’re still great to hold onto thanks to their high sell value and the valuable materials you get from dismantling them. As long as you keep checking the right spots and clearing the high-density loot areas, you’ll be able to stack up plenty of Ion Sputters while farming other top-tier resources along the way.
