On an Ironman account in Old School RuneScape, gathering essential resources like Limpwurt roots can be challenging—but it’s crucial for progressing your Herblore skill. Since trading isn’t an option, you’ll need reliable and efficient methods to stock up on these valuable ingredients yourself. In this guide, we’ll cover the best ways to farm Limpwurt roots as an Ironman, helping you streamline your supply and boost your potion-making game without wasting precious time.
Farming is by far the best and most consistent way to get Limpwurt roots on an Ironman account in Old School RuneScape. To start planting Limpwurt seeds, you’ll need at least level 26 Farming, which can be quickly achieved by completing three key quests: Recipe for Disaster (Goblin Generals), Fairytale I – Growing Pains, and Forgettable Tale of a Drunken Dwarf. Once you hit the required level, all you need are Limpwurt seeds, a seed dibber, and a rake—both tools can be bought from farming shops or nearby farmers. Limpwurt seeds themselves can be obtained by killing monsters like Kurasks, Mammoths, Deviant Spectres, Moss Giants, or through farming contracts. Limpwurt flowers are planted in flower patches, and there are seven in total: south of Falador, west of Port Phasmatys, north of Ardougne, north of Catherby, the Farming Guild, Prifddinas, and southwest of Hosidius. Each seed takes about 20 minutes to grow and can yield 3–12 roots, with yield improving as your Farming level increases (up to 12 roots max). Using compost helps the plant survive, but doesn’t impact the yield, and Magic Secateurs also don’t boost Limpwurt root drops. At higher levels, especially with 99 Farming and efficient rotations, you can average up to 50 Limpwurt roots every 20 minutes, making this method the most efficient and Ironman-friendly way to gather a steady supply of roots for Herblore training.
Another solid way to get Limpwurt roots on an Ironman in Old School RuneScape is by slaying monsters, which is less consistent than farming but great for combat training and grabbing extra resources. If you’re short on roots or just want a break from farming, monsters like Hobgoblins and Hill Giants are great F2P options, while Cockatrices are the best in P2P thanks to their high drop rate and low hitpoints. Turoths are also worth mentioning for their Limpwurt drops and bonus herb and alchable loot. For higher-level players, Wilderness bosses like Callisto, Venenatis, and Vet’ion drop 25 noted Limpwurt roots at a 1/25 rate, but these bosses are dangerous and located in PvP zones, so only attempt them with proper gear and caution. Limpwurt roots are mainly used in Herblore to make Strength and Super Strength potions by combining them with Tarromin or Kwuarm potions, and F2P players can still use them via the Varrock Apothecary to make basic potions. Roots are also required for quests like Temple of Ikov and can be traded in batches of 15 to the Fossil Island Squirrel-farmers to protect your trees from disease, making them a valuable resource beyond just potion-making.
Limpwurt roots are an essential resource for Ironman players in Old School RuneScape, especially for training Herblore and completing certain quests. While Farming offers the most reliable and consistent method for collecting them, killing monsters is a great alternative when you’re looking to mix in combat training or need a quick supply. Whether you’re harvesting from flower patches or grinding out drops from mobs, both methods have their place depending on your goals and gameplay style. With the right setup and some planning, stocking up on Limpwurt roots as an Ironman becomes much easier and more efficient.
