The best current Minecraft Java HUD mods are BetterF3, MiniHUD, AppleSkin, Inventory HUD+, Xaero's Minimap, Jade and Giselbaer's Durability Viewer. They solve different problems: debug clutter, technical overlays, hidden food values, inventory visibility, navigation, block information and tool durability. No single mod should fill the entire screen.
Compatibility checked August 27, 2026: these are Minecraft: Java Edition mods. Loader and game-version support differ by release. Download only the file that explicitly matches your Minecraft version and Fabric, Forge, NeoForge or Quilt installation; a “1.21.x” project page does not mean every build supports every 1.21 point release.
| Mod | Best use | Typical environment | Loader note | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BetterF3 | Readable debug screen | Client-side | Modern Fabric/Forge/NeoForge builds vary | Do not expose coordinates in screenshots unintentionally |
| MiniHUD | Technical building overlays | Mostly client-side | Often Fabric-focused; malilib may be required | Some servers restrict structure or seed-derived overlays |
| AppleSkin | Hunger and saturation | Mostly client-side; server data improves accuracy | Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt releases exist | Exact values may require server support |
| Inventory HUD+ | Inventory, armor and potion visibility | Client-side | Check the project file list for your loader | Can clutter small screens |
| Xaero's Minimap | Waypoints and navigation | Client-side with fair-play mode options | Multiple loader builds | Server rules may restrict cave or entity radar |
| Jade | Block and entity identification | Client plus optional server integration | Fabric/Forge/NeoForge availability varies | Large modpacks can add excessive tooltip data |
| Durability Viewer | Armor and tool durability | Client-side | Use the current Giselbaer project listing | Older builds may not support the newest Java release |

BetterF3 keeps the information players expect from F3 while letting you move, recolor or hide modules. It is useful for builders, troubleshooting and coordinate work because the layout is less dense than the vanilla wall of text. The project remains actively available for modern Java versions, but the exact loader matrix changes between files.

MiniHUD is the specialist choice for chunk boundaries, light information, coordinates, shapes and construction measurements. It is powerful enough to become distracting, so enable only the lines relevant to the current task. Many builds require malilib, and you must match both dependencies to the same Minecraft version.

AppleSkin does not change hunger mechanics. It shows potential food restoration, saturation and exhaustion information so you can make better food choices. The project supports multiple modern loaders and 1.21.x releases. On a vanilla server, some exact saturation data may require a compatible server plugin.

This mod is useful during combat, mining and long building sessions because it can show equipment, effects and inventory slots. Reduce its scale on laptops and move it away from subtitles or chat. The downside is obvious: showing everything all the time turns an information tool into visual noise.

Waypoints make large survival worlds easier to navigate, and the familiar visual style fits the vanilla interface. Multiplayer is the important caveat. Entity radar, cave information or other features may violate a server's rules even if the mod itself is client-side. Use fair-play settings when required and ask before joining competitive servers.
Jade identifies the block or entity under the crosshair and can show data supplied by supported mods. It is most useful in large modpacks where two machines look similar or contain hidden state. Trim the tooltip modules so essential information stays readable.

Durability Viewer solves one narrow problem well: it keeps the remaining life of armor and tools visible. That makes it better than a complete HUD replacement for players who want the vanilla screen with one extra warning. Confirm that the current Giselbaer release supports your exact game and loader combination.
.jar files in that profile's mods folder.A site that bundles an installer, asks you to disable antivirus, or hides the real file behind multiple download buttons is not worth the risk. Never download a “cracked” client to get a HUD.
A cosmetic or information overlay is not automatically permitted everywhere. Minigame and competitive servers can restrict minimaps, entity radar, seed-derived structure information or overlays that reveal data vanilla players cannot see. Read the server rules and disable questionable modules before joining.
For performance problems after adding several overlays, use the separate guide to Minecraft optimization mods and compare your baseline with the best graphics settings. Shader users should follow the safe shader installation guide instead of adding unrelated files to the same profile.
Not these Java .jar projects. Bedrock uses different add-on and UI systems, and console platforms do not load Java mods.
Usually, but widgets can overlap and dependencies can conflict. Add one at a time and keep a working profile backup.
MiniHUD offers the strongest technical overlays. BetterF3 is easier if you mainly need coordinates and debug information.
Compatibility and features were checked against the developers' current Modrinth, CurseForge and linked source pages. Because loaders update independently, this guide describes project-level support and tells readers to verify the individual file. We review the table after major Java releases.
