Patch 26.16 is where League Classic stops feeling like a museum piece and starts behaving like its own live game. Riot has added Akali, Kennen, and Shen, pulled back several launch-week outliers, strengthened some forgotten picks, and changed enough of the map economy to shake up every role. That makes the first wave of Patch 26.15 tier lists outdated before you even reach champion select.

What Changed in LoL Classic Patch 26.16?
Patch 26.16, scheduled for August 12, 2026, is the first real balance pass for League Classic. The roster grows from 60 to 63 champions, but the newcomer trio is only part of the story. Riot also adjusted 18 existing champions and changed gold generation, jungle scaling, turret durability, early death timers, and runes.
Three champions join Classic
Akali brings old-school Shroud and three targeted ultimate charges. Kennen adds ranged lane pressure and reliable teamfight stuns. Shen offers an AoE taunt and global protection through Stand United.
Launch leaders were nerfed
Riot specifically identified Tryndamere, Twitch, Warwick, Blitzcrank, and Heimerdinger as role-leading performers before trimming their power. Jarvan IV, Janna, Katarina, Nasus, and others also received targeted nerfs.
Low performers got help
Amumu, Dr. Mundo, Garen, Lux, Miss Fortune, Skarner, Soraka, and Veigar all gained meaningful power. Alistar's allied healing also improved, although that alone does not erase his awkward Classic laning.
Games should run a little longer
Turrets gained health, AP damage against structures was cut, and later jungle camps became tougher. Supports and roamers benefit from increased passive gold, while efficient farmers gain an edge as the game goes on.
How We Ranked the League Classic Champions
This is an editorial Patch 26.16 power ranking, not a win-rate table wearing a fancy coat. Riot currently keeps League Classic match history out of the public API, so there is no trustworthy source for complete live global win rates, pick rates, or ban rates. U.GG labels its Classic ranking as PBE-based, while other public sites rely on historical approximations.
We compared Riot's final patch notes, the launch balance context, restored champion kits, PBE impressions, historical matchup patterns, and the way Classic itself plays. Every champion was judged on six practical questions:
- Lane and early-game control: Can the champion reach a useful state without the matchup doing them a favor?
- Reliability: Does the kit create value even when the player is not snowballing?
- Scaling: Does the champion remain relevant in the longer games encouraged by sturdier turrets?
- Teamfight impact: Classic has less mobility, making dependable crowd control and zone control unusually valuable.
- Map pressure: Roams, objective control, split pushing, and global abilities all matter.

Best Top Lane Champions
S tier: Jax, Cho'Gath
A tier: Nasus, Kennen, Shen, Singed, Tryndamere, Wukong
Jax is our best overall top laner because Counter Strike punishes the auto-attack-heavy fights that define Classic, while his scaling makes him a genuine side-lane win condition. Cho'Gath is less explosive but easier to fit into a draft: lane sustain, multiple forms of crowd control, and objective security never go out of style. Pick Shen when your team already has damage and needs someone to turn a fight from across the map.
Best Jungle Champions
S tier: Jarvan IV, Fiddlesticks
A tier: Amumu, Lee Sin, Master Yi
Jarvan IV lost some armor growth and shield efficiency, but the reason he wins games is still intact: a fast early gank and Cataclysm against a roster with fewer escapes. Fiddlesticks is the better teamfight bet, especially when your team can control vision around a flank. Amumu is the cleanest beginner option. His Patch 26.16 buffs improve both his pick potential and the magic damage his team deals after he connects.

A tier: Ahri, Akali, Heimerdinger, Kennen, Veigar
Kassadin remains terrifying even after Riot corrected an unintended Riftwalk ratio. Point-and-click silence is far stronger in this version of League than it would be in the modern game, and sturdier turrets give him a little more time to reach his late-game loop. Annie is the practical alternative: uncomplicated farming, reliable burst, and a stun that can start a fight without a mechanical audition.
Best ADC Champions
S tier: Ezreal, Corki
A tier: Twitch, Vayne
Ezreal gets the top spot after fixes to his base attack damage and Manamune. He is safe enough to survive punishing lanes, useful before a full build, and flexible when a fight refuses to happen on ideal terms. Corki offers stronger lane pressure and mixed damage. Vayne is the sharper late-game carry, but she needs time and teammates willing to keep threats off her.
Best Support Champions
S tier: Leona
A tier: Blitzcrank, Janna, Sona
Leona is the support we would blind most often. Her long crowd-control chain is brutally effective when enemy carries cannot dash away on command. Blitzcrank's cooldown and damage nerfs make missed hooks more expensive, but a landed grab can still decide the lane. Janna and Sona are the better choices when the rest of your composition already knows how it wants to engage.
Where Do Akali, Kennen, and Shen Rank?
All three newcomers begin in A tier. That is a projection rather than a claim based on live Patch 26.16 win rates, but each restored kit already has a clear reason to succeed in Classic.
Akali
Classic Akali has Spell Vamp, on-hit pressure, true invisibility inside Twilight Shroud, and three targeted Shadow Dance charges. Once she reaches level six, fragile backliners have to respect every missing ping.
What holds her back: hard crowd control, difficult lanes, and a greater need to snowball than the safer S-tier mids.
Kennen
Kennen has the best chance of climbing into S tier. Energy removes mana pressure, ranged attacks create a useful top-lane matchup profile, and Mark of the Storm turns three hits into a stun. Slicing Maelstrom gives him a fight-winning purpose even after a quiet lane.
What holds him back: his restored ultimate is less automatic than modern players may expect, and careless energy use can ruin a combo.
Shen
Shen trades solo-carry damage for tools that are difficult to replace: lane sustain through Vorpal Blade, an AoE taunt, and Stand United. He is at his best beside a carry who wants permission to play aggressively.
What holds him back: long cooldowns and lower personal damage make weak teammates harder to rescue.
Why These Champions Are S Tier
None of these champions is unbeatable. They rank highest because their good games happen often, their bad games still contain a useful plan, and their core strengths match Classic's slower, less mobile battlefield.
Jax
Counter Strike attacks the basic-attack patterns used by many Classic carries. Give him an even lane and he becomes both a split-push threat and a dangerous cleanup champion.
Jarvan IV
His numbers were trimmed, but his EQ engage and Cataclysm still punish slow, immobile backlines. Few junglers influence the first ten minutes as consistently.
Kassadin
A point-and-click silence, anti-magic defenses, and repeated Riftwalks make him the premier late-game mid. His lane remains the window opponents must exploit.
Ezreal
Bug fixes restore the damage he was supposed to have. Range, mobility, flexible itemization, and reliable poke let him contribute without standing where Classic crowd control can reach him.
Leona
She turns one opening into a long chain of crowd control. Her job is obvious, repeatable, and unusually difficult for low-mobility carries to answer.
Fiddlesticks

Why Classic Rankings Differ From Modern League
League Classic is not a byte-for-byte copy of one Season 3 patch. Riot describes it as a collection of early League's greatest hits, with old runes, masteries, items, Summoner's Rift features, and champion kits rebuilt on modern infrastructure.
That distinction matters. There are fewer dashes, longer crowd-control chains, more point-and-click tools, sharper mana costs, and more obvious weaknesses. A champion such as Blitzcrank gains value because one hook is harder to escape; Jax benefits from extended basic-attack fights; Kassadin's silence changes how a mage can answer him. Meanwhile, champions that rely on modern quality-of-life changes can feel much less forgiving than their current versions.

He remains powerful in A tier, but the patch creates a fairer window to punish him.
Why are there no win rates in this tier list?
Riot does not currently expose League Classic match history through its public API. Sites may publish PBE results or historical estimates, but those figures are not the same as verified global Patch 26.16 live data. We would rather explain an editorial ranking than present estimates as fact.
Does LoL Classic have a Ranked mode?
