League of Legends has 10 live champions strongly associated with the Shadow Isles: Elise, Gwen, Hecarim, Kalista, Karthus, Maokai, Thresh, Vex, Viego and Yorick. That does not mean all ten were born there. Some lived on the Blessed Isles before the Ruination, some arrived from Camavor or Noxus, and others are linked through the Black Mist.
Roster checked: August 27, 2026. We count live League champions that Riot's current region and biography material directly associates with the Shadow Isles. Lore-connected visitors such as Lucian and Senna are discussed separately rather than silently counted as natives.
| Champion | Gameplay role | Mortal or original origin | Shadow Isles connection |
|---|---|---|---|
| Elise | Mage / Assassin | Noxian noble | Bound to Vilemaw and repeatedly travels to the Isles |
| Gwen | Fighter / Mage | Doll made by Isolde in Camavor | Brought to life by Hallowed Mist tied to Isolde and the Ruination |
| Hecarim | Fighter / Tank | Camavorian commander | Fused with his cavalry by the Ruination |
| Kalista | Marksman | Camavorian general | Betrayed on the Blessed Isles and reborn as vengeance |
| Karthus | Mage | Mortal from Noxus | Sought the Isles and embraced undeath willingly |
| Maokai | Tank / Mage | Nature spirit of the Blessed Isles | Survived corruption and fights to restore the land |
| Thresh | Support / Fighter | Human custodian of the Blessed Isles | Transformed into the Chain Warden during the Ruination |
| Vex | Mage | Yordle from Bandle City | Followed the Black Mist and aided Viego before rejecting his sentimentality |
| Viego | Fighter / Assassin | King of Camavor | His attempt to revive Isolde caused the Ruination |
| Yorick | Fighter / Tank | Monk of the Blessed Isles | Survived through Waters of Life and seeks to end the curse |

Maokai is not an undead invader. He is a nature spirit rooted in the original Blessed Isles and one of the clearest links to what the region lost. His lore centers on preserving life and undoing the Mist.

Thresh served as a custodian of hidden artifacts. The catastrophe did not invent his cruelty, but it gave him supernatural means to imprison and torment souls.
Yorick was a monk able to hear the dead. Waters of Life around his neck protected him from immediate corruption, leaving him among the few living figures still fighting within the Isles.

Viego is central to the region without being a native. He brought Isolde's body to the Blessed Isles and triggered the magical disaster that transformed them.
Both came from Camavor. Kalista's murder and oath-driven afterlife made her the Spear of Vengeance. Hecarim's ambition and violence culminated in his fusion with the Iron Order as a spectral cavalry.

Isolde made Gwen as a doll before the Ruination. The Hallowed Mist gave her life, placing her inside the same story while making her a source of hope rather than another wraith.
Karthus was fascinated by death while living in Noxus and traveled to the Isles by choice. He should be described as a convert to undeath, not as someone born in the region.
Elise is a Noxian noble transformed through Vilemaw. Her sacrifices and expeditions create a direct regional tie, but her social and political origin remains Noxian.
Vex is a Bandle City yordle drawn to the Black Mist's gloom. She aided Viego during the Ruination story, then lost interest in his romantic motivation. Her association is real; “Shadow Isles native” is not.

Using Riot's strong regional and biography associations, there are 10 live champions as of August 27, 2026. A stricter birthplace-only count would be smaller, which is why the methodology matters.
No. Viego was king of Camavor. His attempt to restore Isolde caused the Blessed Isles to become the Shadow Isles.
Vex is a yordle from Bandle City. She is associated with the Shadow Isles through the Black Mist and her role in Viego's Ruination campaign.
Origins and relationships were checked against Riot Games' Universe region, champion biography and Ruination story material, with the live champion catalog used to exclude non-playable characters. The list is updated when Riot revises canon or releases a new live champion with a direct regional link.
