
Good crosshair placement means aiming at the most likely head position before an opponent appears, then leaving enough horizontal space for the way they can peek. Improve it by separating four errors—height, corner distance, angle choice, and shooting before movement stops—and drilling the error you actually make.
A smaller or brighter reticle can improve visibility, but changing a crosshair code does not fix placement. The skill is moving your aim through the map with a reason.

Crosshair placement is the position and path of your aim before and during a fight. It has three practical goals: reduce how far you must correct, keep the first accurate bullet ready for a likely target, and avoid dragging your aim across several threats at once.
That is different from crosshair design. Design covers color, outline, length, gap, movement error, and firing error. A clean design can make your aim easier to see, but a perfect-looking reticle pointed at the floor is still poor placement.
It is also different from raw flick speed. A small correction is usually faster and more repeatable than rescuing a reticle that started at chest level or on the wrong wall.

Do not memorize one horizontal line across the whole map. Head height changes with ramps, stairs, boxes, crouch-only paths, and whether the opponent stands above or below you.
Use the environment as a ruler. Box seams, wall panels, door frames, railings, and teammate models can provide repeatable references. Walk a route in a custom game and trace the line where an enemy head would appear at each common position. Pause before elevation changes and predict the new line before moving your mouse.
Repeat the route from both directions. A landmark that works while attacking a site may not solve the reverse angle during a retake.
The correct gap depends on the expected peek. If an opponent is likely to run or wide-swing, a slightly wider hold gives your reaction time somewhere to go. If they are likely to shoulder-peek or clear slowly, a tighter hold reduces the correction.
Your distance from the wall also changes who sees whom first. A player farther from the shared corner often sees more of the closer player's model sooner. Good placement cannot rescue every unfavorable angle, so reposition when geometry is the real problem.
Before moving, name the next angle. Keep the crosshair on that line while your movement exposes only that position. Once it is clear, transfer to the next threat before revealing more of your model.

On PC, Patch 13.05 added Range options for 10, five, or one practice bot. Select one bot and keep the crosshair level while strafing around it. Stop, confirm the head, fire one accurate bullet, then move again. The goal is clean movement-to-shot timing, not a high score.
Use five bots and move the crosshair along the shortest controlled path between heads. Reset if you start sweeping past targets or firing during the correction. Speed should emerge from a smaller path, not from throwing the mouse harder.
Choose one site route on a current map. Clear it without enemies, saying each position before it becomes visible. On the next pass, vary the assumed enemy behavior: tight hold, wide swing, elevated position, then off-angle. Recheck the route after Riot changes geometry.
Pick one constraint for the whole match: head height, stop-before-shoot, or clearing order. Do not judge the drill by placement on the scoreboard. Count how often the first correction matched the chosen goal.
Open a replay and review only your first enemy contact in each round. Pause one second before the opponent appears. Predict where your crosshair should be, then resume and label the miss: height, gap, wrong angle, elevation, movement, or an unavoidable information disadvantage.

Repeat the week with the most frequent error as the new priority. Keep your sensitivity stable during the measurement block unless the replay shows that normal corrections consistently exceed your comfortable range. Riot introduced PC replays for Competitive, Unrated, Swiftplay, and Premier in Patch 11.06, then added friend replay access and eligible Custom-game recording in Patch 12.10. Availability and retention can change, so save or review important matches while they remain accessible.

Do not use headshot percentage alone as a placement grade. Weapon choice, wallbangs, sprays, opponent behavior, role, and sample size all change that statistic.
Players often lower the crosshair while navigating because the floor feels like a stable reference. Replace that habit by tracing wall and box landmarks at head height during empty custom-map routes.

Standing head height is the safer default because crouching usually lowers an opponent into your correction path. Deliberately holding crouch height can make sense only after reliable information or a repeated habit justifies it.
It helps transfer mechanics under pressure, but it does not reproduce every Competitive route, utility state, or opponent incentive. Combine it with custom-map pathing and replay review.
It may improve visibility, but it will not choose height, distance, or clearing order for you. Use a reticle you can see without covering the target, then train the movement of that reticle.
