Keeping your weapons stocked in GTA 5 is essential, especially during missions, heists, and PvP fights. The game offers multiple ways to buy ammo, but the options change depending on whether you’re playing Story Mode or GTA Online.
In Story Mode, the process is straightforward, with Ammu-Nation stores being your main source for weapons and ammo. GTA Online, on the other hand, gives you more flexibility, including ways to restock without visiting a shop.
Some methods are faster and more convenient, while others are cheaper if you’re trying to save money. Knowing when to use each option can make a big difference during gameplay.
In this guide, you’ll learn all the ways to buy ammo in GTA 5, including the fastest methods, the cheapest options, and how to restock efficiently in both Story Mode and GTA Online.

In GTA 5 Story Mode, buying ammo is simple since there’s only one place to get it from, Ammu-Nation. These stores are located all around Los Santos and Blaine County and are easy to spot on the map with a pistol icon. Every location offers the same weapons and ammo prices, so you can just visit whichever one is closest.
To restock your ammo, walk into the store and go up to the counter. Open the shop menu when prompted, then choose the weapon you want to refill. From there, select the ammo option to start adding rounds. You can buy ammo in smaller amounts or fill it completely using the quick purchase option shown on screen.
Keep in mind that not every weapon is available right away. Some guns only appear in the shop after progressing through certain missions in the story. If you don’t see a weapon listed, it usually means you haven’t unlocked it yet.
This is the only method to buy ammo in Story Mode, so visiting Ammu-Nation regularly is key to staying prepared.

GTA Online gives you more ways to restock ammo compared to Story Mode. While Ammu-Nation is still available, there are faster and more convenient options that let you refill without leaving your current location. Each method has its own advantage depending on how quickly you need ammo.
The quickest way to buy ammo in GTA Online is through the Interaction Menu. You can use this anywhere, even during missions or fights.
Open the Interaction Menu, go to Inventory, then select Ammo. From there, choose the weapon you want and buy rounds instantly. You can either purchase smaller amounts or refill the weapon completely in one action.
Ammo bought this way costs a bit more than store prices, but the speed and convenience make it worth it when you need ammo fast.
Once you reach Rank 12, you unlock the ability to request an ammo drop. This option is also found in the Interaction Menu under services.
When you call it in, a crate is delivered near your position. To use it, equip the weapon you want to refill and pick up the crate. It will only restock the weapon you’re holding at that moment.
This method is useful when you’re in the middle of a fight and can’t open menus or visit a store.
Franklin’s supply drop gives you more than just ammo. It restores your health, refills armor, and drops a set amount of ammunition at your location.
It’s more expensive than other options, but it’s very useful in intense situations where you need everything at once. Instead of buying ammo separately, you get a full reset on your combat resources in one go.
GTA Online offers multiple ways to restock ammo, so choosing the right method depends on your situation. If you need speed, use the Interaction Menu. If you’re in combat, call a drop. If you need everything at once, go with a supply stash.
Buying ammo in GTA 5 is simple once you understand the different options available in Story Mode and GTA Online. Whether you’re visiting Ammu-Nation or using faster methods like the Interaction Menu, keeping your weapons stocked is key to staying ready for any fight.
GTA Online gives you more flexibility with instant purchases and supply drops, while Story Mode keeps things straightforward with store visits. Knowing when to use each method can save you time and help you stay prepared during missions, heists, or PvP.
With the right approach, you’ll never run out of ammo at the wrong moment and can focus fully on gameplay.
