Should You Pull for Mydei in Honkai: Star Rail?

Mydei has officially arrived in Honkai: Star Rail, and while his design alone might be enough to win over some fans (myself included), there’s more to this Imaginary Destruction unit than just his looks. As someone who enjoys collecting tall, edgy male characters in gacha games, Mydei immediately earned a spot on my team. He also happens to feel like a true upgrade to Blade—my longtime favorite—who has unfortunately fallen off in the current meta. But personal bias aside, is Mydei worth pulling for? In this article, we’ll break down what makes him stand out and help you decide if he’s a good fit for your account. Let’s dive in.

Right now, Mydei is holding his own quite well, mostly because he just dropped and the current content is clearly designed with him in mind. That said, his long-term viability is a bit uncertain. HP-scaling units in Honkai: Star Rail haven’t exactly had the best track record—just look at Blade. He started off strong but quickly got overshadowed a couple of updates later and now barely sees use in high-level content. Mydei might be headed down a similar path.

Still, in the present meta, he’s an absolute beast. He’s tanky to the point of feeling unkillable, deals solid damage, and is super easy to build—just stack HP. And when it comes to gameplay, he practically runs on autopilot. Once he enters his Vendetta state, you don’t really play him—he takes over and does his thing.

So yeah, Mydei is strong, easy to gear up, and simple to use, though his hands-off playstyle might not be for everyone. Just don’t be surprised if he drops off a bit once newer characters start rolling in.

Should You Pull for Mydei?

When it comes to Mydei, the decision to pull really depends on what you value in a character. As a damage dealer, he’s not exactly groundbreaking. Honkai: Star Rail has a history of power creep, and units that rely on HP-scaling like Mydei tend to fall off faster than others. His current performance is solid, but I honestly don’t see him staying relevant long-term, especially once the next wave of stronger characters hits.

The real reason he’s getting attention is because of his tall male model and the fact that he gives off serious Gilgamesh vibes—let’s be real. If it weren’t for the design and aesthetic, most players probably wouldn’t look twice. His kit is also very autopilot. You barely interact with the character once he enters his Vendetta state, which might be appealing to those who enjoy auto-play farming, but it’s definitely not for everyone.

Personally, I’m pulling for him because I collect every tall male unit in the game, but if you’re more of a meta-focused player or someone who wants engaging gameplay, Mydei might not be worth your Stellar Jades. He’s cool, sure, but as an investment? Not the strongest choice.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, whether or not you should pull for Mydei depends entirely on what you’re looking for. If you love his design, enjoy hands-off gameplay, or just want a cool HP-scaling DPS unit that looks great on your roster, then go for it—he’ll get the job done. But if you’re focused on long-term value, gameplay depth, or staying ahead of power creep, Mydei might not be the wisest pull. He’s a fun unit for collectors and casual players, but not a must-have for competitive or meta-focused teams.
