FragPunk throws players into chaotic 5v5 battles with wild abilities, game-changing Shard Cards, and plenty of action. But at its core, the game still follows a familiar format—especially in its main mode, where two teams face off as Attackers and Defenders. Like other tactical shooters, one team is tasked with planting a device, while the other tries to stop them. In FragPunk, that device is called the Converter. If you’re new to the game or just need a refresher, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know about planting and defusing the Converter in FragPunk.
To plant the Converter in FragPunk, you’ll need to be on the Attacking team in Shard Clash mode. At the start of each round, after your team sets its Shard Cards, one player can grab the Converter—usually located at your spawn point. Only one player can carry it, so make sure someone reliable picks it up.
Your job is to make your way to either Site A or Site B, both clearly marked on your map. Once you reach one of the bomb sites, the player holding the Converter needs to press and hold the key or button tied to the planting action—by default, that’s “4” on keyboard or Down on the D-Pad for controller users. You can rebind this in settings if needed.
Once planted, the Converter starts a 50-second countdown. Attackers must then protect it until it detonates. Alternatively, your team can win by wiping out the Defenders even after the plant. Either way, controlling the site and keeping the enemy at bay is key to locking in the round win.
In FragPunk, if you’re on the Defending side and the enemy team manages to plant the Converter, your job isn’t done yet—you’ll need to defuse it before the 50-second countdown hits zero. Once the Converter is planted at either Site A or Site B, your HUD will show exactly where it is, along with the timer ticking down.
To defuse it, head straight to the site, clear out any remaining attackers, and interact with the Converter by holding the appropriate key. By default, that’s “4” on keyboard or Down on the D-Pad for controller players. You can change this in your keybinds if needed.
Here’s the important part: even if your team wipes out all attackers after the Converter is planted, the round won’t end until the defuse is complete. So don’t waste time—secure the area and defuse as fast as possible to claim the round. If the Converter hasn’t been planted yet, eliminating the entire enemy team is enough to win.
Mastering how to plant and defuse the Converter in FragPunk is key to winning matches in Shard Clash. Whether you’re pushing sites as an Attacker or holding them down as a Defender, timing, teamwork, and knowing your role make all the difference. With a solid understanding of how the Converter works, you’ll be better equipped to carry rounds, clutch plays, and lead your team to victory.
