GT45Sprites are one of the biggest gameplay additions introduced in Fortnite Chapter 7, offering players powerful passive abilities that can dramatically change the outcome of a match. Unlike traditional items, Sprites act as collectible companions that provide unique bonuses, allowing you to improve your survivability, mobility, loot quality, or combat effectiveness simply by carrying them.
However, Sprites aren’t just free power-ups. You’ll need to level them up throughout the match, protect them from enemy players, and successfully extract them if you want to permanently add them to your collection. With multiple rarities, special variants, and different passive abilities available, understanding how the Sprite system works is essential if you want to get the most out of this new mechanic.
In this guide, we’ll explain everything you need to know about Sprites in Fortnite, including how to find them, level them up, extract them, the different rarities available, and the unique bonuses each variant provides. Whether you’re playing casually or pushing Ranked, this guide will help you master one of Fortnite’s most important new features.

Sprites are collectible companions that grant powerful passive abilities while you’re carrying them during a match. Unlike regular loot, Sprites occupy your Back Bling slot and provide unique perks that can improve your survivability, mobility, combat power, or looting efficiency.
Here’s how the Sprite system works in Fortnite:
Once you find a Sprite, you can equip it immediately. Each Sprite grants a passive bonus that remains active for as long as you’re carrying it. Depending on the Sprite you find, you may gain increased combat effectiveness, additional healing, improved mobility, or other useful benefits.
Every Sprite starts at Level 1 and can be upgraded to Level 5 during a match.
Your Sprite gains experience by:
As your Sprite levels up, its passive ability becomes stronger, making it even more valuable during the later stages of the game.
If you want to permanently keep a Sprite, you’ll need to successfully extract it before the match ends.
Extraction Sites are marked on your map. Once you arrive, begin the extraction process and defend the area until the timer finishes. After a successful extraction, the Sprite is added to your permanent collection and can be viewed in the Sprites tab from the main lobby.
If you’re eliminated before extracting your Sprite, you lose it.
The Sprite drops onto the battlefield, allowing other players to pick it up and potentially extract it themselves. Because of this, deciding when to risk an extraction is an important part of the new gameplay system.

Not all Sprites in Fortnite are created equal. Every Sprite belongs to one of four base rarities—Rare, Epic, Legendary, or Mythic. In general, higher-rarity Sprites offer stronger passive abilities, making them significantly more valuable during a match. Finding and successfully extracting a Legendary or Mythic Sprite can provide a major advantage throughout the game.
In addition to their standard rarities, some Sprites also appear as special variants, each offering an exclusive bonus that can help you progress faster or improve your performance.
The Gold Sprite is perfect for players looking to level up quickly. It grants 3× bonus XP from player eliminations, making it one of the best Sprites for earning experience and progressing through the Battle Pass.
The Gummy Sprite increases the amount of Sprite Dust you earn by 20%. Sprite Dust is used to purchase lost Sprites and Portable Extractors, making this variant especially valuable for players looking to expand their Sprite collection.
The Galaxy Sprite grants 30% more ammunition when looting, helping you stay stocked throughout the match. This bonus is particularly useful in longer games where managing ammo becomes increasingly important during the late game.
Whether you’re chasing stronger passive abilities or trying to unlock every collectible, understanding the different Sprite rarities and special Sprite variants is essential for getting the most out of Fortnite’s newest gameplay mechanic.

There are several ways to find Sprites in Fortnite, but the most reliable method is by looting chests throughout the map. Sprites can also spawn randomly in various locations during a match, and you’ll occasionally obtain one by eliminating an opponent who is carrying a Sprite.
However, simply finding a Sprite isn’t enough to permanently unlock it. To add a Sprite to your collection, you’ll need to successfully extract it at an Extraction Site before you’re eliminated. If you die before completing the extraction, the Sprite will drop to the ground, allowing another player to claim it.
As you play the match, your equipped Sprite will earn experience by completing normal gameplay activities such as:
Every Sprite can level up from Level 1 to Level 5, becoming more powerful as it gains experience. Once a Sprite reaches its maximum level, successfully extracting it will Master that Sprite, allowing you to earn exclusive rewards and progress your overall Sprite collection.
If you’re looking to complete your collection as quickly as possible, prioritize surviving long enough to fully level your Sprite before heading to an Extraction Site. While it can be tempting to extract early, mastering high-level Sprites is the best way to maximize your rewards in Fortnite.

Finding a Sprite is only half the challenge. If you want to permanently unlock it and add it to your collection, you’ll need to successfully extract the Sprite before you’re eliminated.
If you die while carrying a Sprite that hasn’t been extracted, you’ll lose it immediately, and another player can pick it up from your dropped loot. However, if you’ve already extracted that Sprite in a previous match, you can summon it again later by spending Sprite Dust.
The only exception is winning the match. If you earn a Victory Royale, every Sprite you’re carrying is automatically extracted at the end of the game.
Extraction Sites are located throughout the Fortnite island and are marked on your map with white icons. Most of them are positioned near major Points of Interest (POIs), making them relatively easy to locate.
You’ll also notice a large beam of light above each Extraction Site, allowing you to spot them from long distances while rotating across the map.
Once you arrive at an Extraction Site, interact with the extraction terminal to begin the process.
Keep in mind that activating the terminal alerts nearby players, making the area a hotspot for fights. The extraction icon also changes on the map, meaning enemy players may attempt to stop you before you finish.
After the extraction timer completes, an Extraction Crate will appear. Quickly interact with it to deposit your Sprite before the crate disappears. Once deposited successfully, the Sprite is permanently added to your collection.
As you continue collecting and mastering Sprites, you’ll unlock Portable Extractors through Sprite Mastery rewards and certain Daily Quests.
Portable Extractors allow you to instantly extract a Sprite from anywhere on the map without visiting an Extraction Site. Since they’re single-use consumables, it’s usually best to save them for Legendary, Mythic, or rare special variant Sprites.
Sprites retain the level they reached when extracted.
For example, if you successfully extract a Level 3 Sprite, it will remain Level 3 inside your collection. However, if you later equip that Sprite and are eliminated during a future match, it resets back to Level 1 and must be leveled up again.
You’ll also need to spend Sprite Dust each time you want to re-summon a Sprite from your collection.
Sprite Dust is the primary currency used by the Sprite system. It’s required to summon previously unlocked Sprites after losing them and can also be spent on several useful upgrades.
The amount of Sprite Dust required depends on the Sprite’s rarity:
There are several reliable ways to earn more Sprite Dust:
Even if you’ve already unlocked a particular Sprite, extracting another copy still rewards additional Sprite Dust, making duplicate extractions worthwhile.
Sprite Dust can be spent at Sprite Dust Service Terminals, which are located next to Extraction Sites across the map.
These terminals allow you to purchase several useful upgrades, including:
Managing your Sprite Dust efficiently is just as important as collecting Sprites themselves. By extracting valuable Sprites regularly and spending your Dust wisely, you’ll build a stronger collection while giving yourself a competitive advantage in future Fortnite matches.
