AWP skins that look like a Dragon Lore for much less

AI Summary

Skins Wiki lists the AWP Dragon Lore at $4,850.58 in Battle-Scarred and $11,379.74 in Factory New, as of September 28, 2026. That's a lot to pay for a look, even a famous one.

What you're paying for is specific. Valve's own description says the gun has been "custom painted with a knotwork dragon," and Skins Wiki tags its palette as gold, orange and yellow. None of the skins below copies that. Each one borrows a piece of it: a mythical creature, the gold, or the old-art feel. The list starts with the closest matches and ends with the cheapest.

1. AWP | Desert Hydra

This is the nearest relative. Valve's description has gold snakes creeping toward the barrel, with the scope, barrel and stock painted white, and a line about two heads growing back for every one you cut off. A many-headed serpent in gold is the closest thing to a dragon on this list.

The origin story rhymes too: like the Dragon Lore, it's a Covert skin that drops from Major souvenir packages tied to one map. For the Hydra that map is Mirage, across eight containers starting with the Stockholm 2021 Mirage Souvenir Package.

Regular copies run from $976.96 to $1,434.97, with Field-Tested currently the cheapest wear. Souvenir copies start even lower, at $879.18. A Battle-Scarred Dragon Lore costs 3.4 times as much as a Factory New Hydra.

2. AWP | Medusa

A Factory New Medusa, at $4,543.79, costs less than the most worn Dragon Lore. It's still a four-figure skin, so it only counts as cheap next to the gun it's standing in for.

Valve describes it as "custom painted with the image of a gorgon." It came out in May 2015 as part of the Gods and Monsters Collection and sits at Covert, the same rarity as the Dragon Lore. If what draws you to the Dragon Lore is a monster from old mythology on the rifle, the Medusa gives you that with a gorgon instead of a dragon. The Battle-Scarred version starts at $1,756.61.

3. AWP | Sovereign Flame

The Sovereign Flame skips the creature and goes for the gold, quite literally: a golden scope, with flames running the length of the weapon. It arrived in July 2026 with the Arabesque Collection and costs $72.75 in Battle-Scarred, $445.66 in Factory New.

It's a Covert skin with a Souvenir version, which gives it some of the same collector appeal as the Dragon Lore at a fraction of the price.

4. AWP | Queen's Gambit

Skins Wiki tags only two AWPs as gold: the Dragon Lore and this one. The Queen's Gambit is painted in royal blue and gold, with a queen hand-painted in front of the stock, and it costs $32.96 to $212.53. Community artist Endrit designed it for the Dead Hand Collection, released in March 2026.

The blue base is the obvious difference, and it changes the overall feel more than the gold details can make up for. What it shares with the Dragon Lore is a painted figure and a regal tone.

5. AWP | Mortis

The cheapest pick takes its inspiration from the Death card in a tarot deck, according to Valve's description. Community artist Zaphk designed it, and it has been in the Clutch Case since February 2018.

There's no dragon and no gold here. What the Mortis has is illustrated, old-art styling at a price that barely registers: $3.27 to $11.21 across all wears. The best AWP skins ranking on this blog already calls it an affordable alternative to the Dragon Lore, and at under $12 for Factory New it's hard to argue.

How to choose

Decide which part of the Dragon Lore you actually want. If it's the mythical beast, the Desert Hydra and the Medusa are the closest on this list, and they still cost four figures. If it's the gold, the Sovereign Flame and the Queen's Gambit get you there for a few hundred dollars at most. If you just want an AWP that looks like old artwork, the Mortis costs under $12.

What none of them gives you is the knotwork dragon itself. That design exists on one AWP only, and the cheapest way to get it is still a Battle-Scarred copy at $4,850.58.
